I was so sad to hear of Cathy's passing. She and I were roommates in Iowa City for several years during college. We had lots of fun together.

So many people like to play games, but Cathy told you just what she thought -- shot straight from the hip. I always appreciated that.

When Laura Johnson gave me the sad news, I told her I had recently thought about Cathy. On April first one year when Cathy and I were roomies, I blew up a balloon and taped it behind a door. Then I taped a pin on the adjacent wall. Somehow Cathy noticed and managed to open the door without popping the balloon. She taped it somewhere else in the apartment to set me up to pop it, unwittingly. This went on almost all day, back and forth, and I'm not sure the dumb thing ever got popped but we sure enjoyed the fun.

I'm sorry for Cathy's husband, children, parents and siblings. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace, Amen.

I saw Cathy at a basketball game in Indianola a couple year's ago. Had a very nice talk with her. Found out her kids were the same age as my kids. Later found out she was ill, and kept track of how she was doing through others.

I was able to attend her wake and funeral and really found out what an inspirational person she was to her family, friends, and community.

Cathy will be missed. I believe she was our first classmate to pass since our graduation.
