Air Force Captain David Wisniewski, originally of Fort Dodge, Iowa, was in the Air Force Pave Hawk helicopter that was shot down this past Wednesday in southern Afghanistan.

Wisniewski, son of Iowa City Regina Activities Director Chet Wisniewski, received injuries to the head and brain and has undergone two surgeries in Germany to relieve pressure to his brain.

Wisniewski was one of seven in the helicopter when it went down, four of which were killed and three were injured.

Chet Wisniewski said his son is stable and if he remains this way, he could be flown from Germany to Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland as early as Friday.

Wisniewski attended Woodbury Central High School in Moville, Iowa.  After high school, he went straight to the U.S. Air Force in Alabama.

David was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada where his fiance resides.

Mr. Wisniewski's son David passed away in early July in Bethesda Maryland due to the injuries he suffered in the helicopter accident.

David's funeral was held in Iowa City, IA the weekend of July 23rd.  He will be buried in Arlington Cemetery later this month.  The Wisniewskis live in Iowa City where Chet is the Activities Director at Regina Catholic High School in Iowa City.

Hello to all who made it back here to beautiful Ft. LauderDodge this past weekend, and more specifically to those who also made it to the reunion festivities.  Everyone's presence added to how good our class was/is.  I know many of you spent way more time, money and energy to get here than I.  I hope you had good time and safe trip home.

I wanted to say thanks to one and all that made it an enjoyable weekend for me, (beats watching the lights change on Central Ave).  Thank you to those who I was able to chat and toast with, and a belated “shout out” to those which whom our paths didn't cross.

Further, my main point was to give one more round of cheers to Mike Conlin for putting forth so much effort mostly on his own (great venue, great food, great self inflicted humor and entertainment(?), this website, etc), but also thanks to those other helpers [Deb Conlin, Kate Huebsch (was Rob even there?), Joyce Bianchi, Jim Madsen, and Bob Ford, Jacque McDonnell/Rahe, Jim Ostrander, and Penny Collins/DeYong] as well as any others I missed.  Take a bow Mike!

To all who couldn't make it, you missed a good night (or two) out and I hope you can make it next time, if there is a next time (40th?, 50th?, 60th?, yikes).  Good luck and health to all going forward and please feel free to give a holler if ever in the Big City

By the way, many of us don't Facebook, Toot, Skyppe, or any other tech thing, so get your pics to Mike so he can post them here for all to see.  Later all, TB

In response to the birthday message about Mrs. Higgins 80th...

I learned a little about food -- but I learned a TON about organization. I learned how to organize my class notes from her. I use a similar system now on MS OneNote (I better write her a card on that!).

What did *you* learn from her?

To all,

My dad is 89, a WWII veteran who served on the front lines.

He is suffering from congestive heart failure. He is at home on hospice care, expected to live 3 months.  My Mom is taking care of him, she's 83 and in excellent health. It's amazing, my dad is completely content with the life he's lived and still so in love with my Mom after 63 years!! What an inspiration!

I would appreciate prayer for our family as my Dads heart disease progresses.

My best to all,

JoAnn Venteicher Houser

Kelly,

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your siblings.  I had not heard about your loss.

The power of prayer can be a comfort to us all, giver and receiver, so I will definitely keep your entire family (m&d, and you) in my thoughts and prayers.  I'll pray for strength and comfort as I can't imagine what you all are going through with such significant losses in such a short period of time.

Thank you for sharing this with our h.s. classmates.

Take care,

Mike Conlon

Kely,

Please know that you and your whole family are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time! It takes faith and courage to share your story in a public forum like this, and I applaud you! Thank you for reaching out and telling your story.  You have been blessed with a wonderful family, but your parents' loss is one that many of us cannot comprehend. It's just not the natural circle of life...to lose a child.

Many of us have gone through great adversity and like you, have come out on the other side. You have made us think, pray and remember just how blessed we are today. If He leads you to it, He will lead you THROUGH it!

Just remember, when one door closes, another one opens...it's the wait in the hall that's HELL! ...Ok, then there's the card that reads...so climb out the window and meet me in the bar!! ;)

We're praying for you!

All the best,

Peggy Bernard

Dear Class of 80.

I am bringing my partner with me next week to the reunion.  We've been together a while now.  I hope you will like him.  His name is Jez.  I didn't want anyone to be surprised.  See you all next week! - Jim
